Who Was Rishi Parashar?

Rishi Parashar stands among the revered sages of the Indian knowledge tradition.

He is traditionally remembered as a great scholar and teacher associated with Dharma, philosophy, ethics, astronomy and the preservation of knowledge. He is also traditionally associated with the Vishnu Purana and Parashara Smriti.

But for us, the importance of Rishi Parashar goes beyond historical identity.

He represents an educational ideal in which knowledge is inseparable from wisdom, discipline, character and responsibility.

The ancient Indian tradition did not view education merely as preparation for a profession. Education was understood as a process of developing the mind, character and conduct of a person.

Why His Name?

We have chosen the name Rishi Parashar Gurukulam to honour this larger vision of education.
